Jhoni & Carla | In Love

It’s crazy how fast time flies. It literally feels like yesterday that I was in Puerto Rico at Feminist Photo Vaycay with a group of like-minded feminist photographers, sipping on cocktails, overthrowing the patriarchy, and creating some killer San Juan photos with this gorgeous couple.

It’s so hard to believe that since then, we’ve survived the first wave of a global pandemic, began the second civil rights movement, started the IVF process, dodged the murder hornets and cicada attacks, lived through even more Trump bullshit, etc. etc. Seriously, where has the time gone?!

And, seriously, when is 2020 going to give us a break?!

Anywayyyy…

This couple was an actual dream to photograph. They were passionate, loving, fun, up for anything, and literally a photographer’s dream. They were creative and interesting and so clearly in love. AND they’re clearly extremely photogenic. Bonus!

All that is great and all, but sometimes as photographers, we realize that we’re more than just photographers, our photos are more than just captured memories. Sometimes we provide people with the opportunity to develop courage, overcome fears and self-doubt, and showcase their true, authentic selves. To experience a side of themselves they haven’t yet discovered. The photography experience can sometimes be more emotional than expected, and that’s what happened here. I’m so happy to be even a small part of someone’s journey of self-discovery and am so thankful to have been a part of this for Carla and Jhoni.

Jhoni and Carla – thanks for sharing your pure, passionate, infectious love with me. I’m so grateful to have met you, photographed you, and witnessed such an authentic love.

Here are some of my favorites from their San Juan photos.
