Abby and Graham‘s backyard wedding was a dream come true. It was so perfect that when I got home that night I said to Antonio, “if I could photograph backyard weddings like that all the time, I’d be living my best life.”
Backyard weddings have a certain kind of energy. It’s more than the normal wedding day hustle. More than the normal wedding day excitement. More than the normal wedding day happiness. There’s an extra ounce of love, comfort, and happiness present when you’re getting married in your childhood home. It can be felt from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. And, it’s absolutely contagious.
The Hustle…
After getting Abby ready at a nearby hotel, we arrived to Graham’s childhood home, where that extra bit of hustle was happening. Vendors were moving about in every direction, each in their own “set up” state of mind. Graham was searching for a missing shoe. Beers were being opened. Cars were pulling in and out, relatives were arriving, wedding party members were roaming, and excitement was building.
The Excitement…
It was everywhere, but I’m not sure it was as obvious anywhere as it was on Abby’s face. The woman couldn’t stop smiling. Whether she was posing for me, hugging her grandma for family photos, or simply in waiting for the ceremony to begin, her excitement and happiness were radiant. And it photographed beautifully.
The Happiness…
Smiles, laughter, hugs, and tears of joy were everywhere I looked. Family members reconnecting, friends greeting each other, strangers dancing beneath the stars, Abby and Graham not able to keep their hands off each other. All of it exuded so much happiness and joy. And, it was absolutely perfect.
Here are some of my favorites from Abby and Graham’s backyard wedding in Upper Arlington…
Abby and Graham, thank you so much for choosing me to be a part of your wedding. Your passion and love for each other is so inspiring. Hold on to that spark, that joy, and that romance forever. You’ve got something special. xoxo
