Kate + Joe and their little Lovey hold a special place in my heart. After spending time with them in Boston for their engagement session, I knew they were the type of people (and pup) that I wanted in my life. They are full of life, always up for adventure, appreciate a good creative challenge and a good beer, and love their dog almost as much as I love mine. As if I wasn’t already excited about their backyard wedding, I certainly was even more excited after their engagement session!
Their Backyard Wedding
As fellow members of The Rising Tide Society, I was so excited when Kate reached out to me about photographing her backyard wedding. As a creative herself, I knew that Kate would be all about the creativity and uniqueness for her hometown Toledo wedding. Little did I know, however, just how epic it would be!
Kate is the boss lady and creative designer at Yennygrams, her calligraphy and design company. Read: Kate is awesome. Also read: Kate designed some gorgeous hand-lettered pieces for her wedding. To compliment her lettered boards, signs, and invitations, she also chose to string beautiful strands of colorful flowers around the yard, have the “flower girls” sprinkle confetti as they made their way down the aisle, and direct guests to their tables using vintage doors decorated with paper garland. There were so many colorful details everywhere that perfectly complimented her gorgeous childhood home.
Kate’s BHLDN dress was so perfectly “her.” She had it modified slightly, but the floral details and the tulle skirt were exactly what I pictured for her. And, check out that cute hanger, with “Joe’s main squeeze” hand lettered by Kate herself, of course!
One reason why this wedding was so unique is because it took place at her childhood home. This GORGEOUS home was the perfect place for every aspect of the wedding day. From getting ready to the first look to the photos to the ceremony to the reception, it was just one perfect location after another. The natural beauty and the special location combined with Kate’s creative decor made the wedding complete perfection.
Kate, Joe, and Lovey, you guys are the best and I’m so happy you choose me to document your gorgeous day. Sending love your way today and every day!
